Hume Lake – Bus Problems!

My friends Serina, Alondra and I were so excited to leave for camp. Fifty high school students circled up in the old Sears (RIP SEARS) parking lot 8am Friday morning. We loaded onto the air bus that would be driving us 6 hours to Hume Lake. I sat next to my friend Amelia and Caden. Half way through the bus ride Caden ended up on the floor to take a nap. We watched some movies and did homework until we arrived at In-and-out for a lunch break. We all got the In-and-Out hats so we could wear them into camp. When the bus finally reached the snow we had to wait a while so the bus driver could put chains on the tires, but quickly after we began to drive, a chain broke and a wheel fell off (buses have two in each area)! We waited for a long time for the mechanics to come but they were still at least an hour away the bus driver decided to just go it! It was a risky and a complete miracle that we made it, slowly… We got off the bus and set up our cabins, I was with my friends Amelia, Serina and Alondra. We were looming for our water and all four of us had forgotten them! But we had as trusty Danimals cuo we used to drink (for a majority of the trip unfortunately.)

We headed out to dinner but the line was so long, I talked to a kid name will from my church and we became better friends! During dinner I saw one of my close friends Lily! We ran for each other across they dinning hall in excitedment, people giving us strange looks. After dinner Will, Kate, Katelyn, Summer, Haley and I headed to the cabin. I waited outside with Will as we waited for the others. We stomped in the snow and broke icicles, the snow was so deep! After about 30 minutes we all went to the tube run but something horrible happened. I reach for my GoPro only to find, it was not longer in my pocket. I searched for it but it was so where to be found so I just headed back to the tube run. It was so fun and I went so far down I reached the end of the path at full speed! After the tube run we headed for the chapel to watch a performance and speaker. Once it was over we all headed back to our cabins for small groups and then bed.

The next morning we woke up around 7am and headed to the breakfast line early. We had chapel again in the morning and the band was AMAZING. Today was broom hockey day, one of the two main event of the entire camp. If your team won you got your team name put onto a giant trophy. My team had 8 players and we named “Surfers not Skaters”. We were all very nervous but once we got on the ice we slide and had fun. I kept sliding on my knees (with guards) and slamming into walls and people just to hit the puck, but it the end the other team scored one on us and we lost. We were disappointed but proud we put up such a big fight. We headed to lunch but I decided to go hang out with some other friends. We went down to the Okay-Shalay to ride the mechanical bull, I lasted about 5 seconds…. I played some fuse ball with my friend Curtis but we both were not very good. My friend Caden got a Pizooky and we all had a Bit, it was delicious! We went down to the tire swing but my friend spun me so much that fell off and face planeted into the snow. We all laughed and headed down to go iced skate. I was speeding across the ice while my friends yelled at me to stop “flexing” on them. After ice skating we went to the tube run again and did a backwards three people line down the hill, it was so fun! After dinner we went down to chapel again for another astounding performance by the band. After that was the biggest event of the weekend, the box sled blitz. Every group made a box led out of cardboard mainly and put 4-6 people in it, sending it down the hill and getting judged. My group got second place with our sled the “Wave rider”, it SPED down the hill and when the jump came it went so far! There were some very creative sleds like a gainer cow. After the race we all headed back to cabins for bed.

The next day we packed up and headed to the chapel for a final performance. The bus was suppossed to come at 12, but we had a snowball fight for almost 2 extra hours before it came around 2pm! The bus had some trouble on the way up again. I sat next to my friend Serina and in the bus we watched Mulan and half the bus burst out in song when “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” started to play. After another 6 hour bus ride we finally arrived back and I was exhausted and ready for my bed again!
