Fort Bragg – Animals everywhere I go

Over Spring Break I went a place in the middle nowhere, the closest town was Fort Bragg which was 30 minutes away from the ranch I was staying at. It was a very beautiful 63 acre ranch with a lot of sheep and cats, its owners being Sunny and his wife Salley. Every morning a girl named Sue would make us a delicious breakfast such as baked apples with granola. But upon arrival I was horrified… there was no service, and the WiFi barely worked enough to check my email. I was not aware of this upon agreeing to come to the ranch in the middle of nowhere. Not only was there nothing near by but now I had no way to contact anyone… isolation. My spring break was spent isolated at a ranch with the occasional visit to Fort Bragg for shopping or food.

On one day we went exploring to a beautiful and stunning glass beach, it was COVERED in sea glass, hundreds of thousands of pieces. It was in the sand and melded into the rocks all around. I decided to explore a bit and had to do a but if mild rock climbing but I found the most amazing tide pools with things like baby octopi and sea urchins. After looking at them for a bit I kept exploring and than saw a little seal swimming, I watched it for a little until I noticed four more on the rocks in front of me, they were sun bathing! I got as close as a could taken there was a giant gap of water between us but they watched me just in case. I was very excited it got even better when some dolphins showed up in the distance! It was such an amazing sight, but on my way back to the beach it seemed the tide had gone up so it was a but of a struggle

I went to the Botanic Gardens in Fort Bragg and there was stunning flowers in bloom everywhere. Before becoming a Botanic Garden it was the home of a family during the 18 and 19 hundreds. We went into a little house you could enter and there stood an over 100 year old teddy bear that belong to one if children who lived there over a century ago. It was in such good condition! When walking outside the house I noticed an area with two small and one large square area closed off by small white picket fences. And to my horror that is where the family had buried 9 of there children from babies to only six years old. It seems the family had a Total of 12 children but nine had died at a young age. It wasn’t an easy time to survive when the kids were born with sickness everywhere…

On the last day I was there I got to go horse back riding! I got the pleasure of riding a horse named Nightcap, he was a very friendly easy going horse. We road along the beach which was practically empty. We saw a few whales out in the water, and a young small otter running around the beach. The ocean was beautiful and the horses were enjoying themselves with the large amount of grass near by. We rode only for about two hours but it was very nice. I was happy to be back on a horse after a few long years since I had taken lessons.
